While we had some big events this year (high school graduate!), it was also the sum of the tiny moments that made this year special.

I’m just feeling so grateful for this year, for the opportunity to homeschool for as long as we want, our community and friends, and this online space to connect with all of you!

I love December for the holidays of course, but it’s also so important to me to slow down and reflect on the year that has past, and dream about the upcoming year!

What did you want to be when you grew up?
Are you still figuring it out? 🙋🏼‍♀️

Maybe that’s because the answer isn’t just about titles or careers — it’s about who you are as a person.

I was drawn to homeschooling not because I need my kids to achieve a certain academic status, but because I wanted to direct their educational experience outside the “standardized box.”

I’m less concerned about state standards and more concerned about their character, curiosity, and confidence. I’m most concerned about their hearts, and ability to think and reason for themselves.

I don’t want a system telling my child they can’t have summer break because of a standardized test they took in second grade. I do want freedom to go as fast or slow on subjects as needed.

Homeschooling gives us the freedom to step outside the box and design an education that nurtures the soul, not just the mind.

It’s not a secret- life is flying by at the speed of light… Sound? Something else altogether?

The hours turn to days, weeks, months, years, then decades. What will you do with it? What will capture your moments?

I’m weighing down time with homeschooling - treasuring every season like I won’t get it back with my kids- because I won’t.

If you want something slower for your life, choose it. Take it, make it yours, and do it. You won’t regret it.

Homeschooling might feel like going rogue - yet it’s not rogue at all- maybe it’s just doing what you need to do right now, for this season.

Sadly, “socialization” is an argument at the top of the list for anti-homeschoolers, but I honestly just don’t see it. This life offers a unique opportunity to experience real life so deeply and vividly, in so many types of circumstances, that it’s surprising this is still an argument.

Homeschool kids, are... just kids, experiencing life in a day to day environment that models... well, whatever you make of life. Is that schoolwork? Friendships? Sports? Nature? Costco runs? Small groups? Goofing off?

Homeschool kids and families are some of the most friendly and engaging humans l’ve encountered.
Ultimately, life is what you make it. What will you make of yours?

🛑You are trying to fit yourself and your kids into a box someone else built.

👷‍♀️Build your own box. Maybe it looks traditional, maybe it looks classical, or Charlotte Mason-y, or Unschooled, or eclectic, or something else altogether.

Build it yourself, be the director, set the vision, get your kids involved, find out what makes them come alive. Find out what makes YOU come alive. Dont’ wear the “homeschool mom” badge like a burden, you are a MOM, a WOMAN, a WIFE, and you get to build the life and home you want.

You set the tone. It’s a big responsibility, and yes, it comes with weight, but the weight should be manageable, and make you stronger, so throw off the things that are crushing you, so you can carry the real things that matter.

Let others think you are crazy.
Let your kids have a longer, slower childhood.
Let the dishes stay overnight if you are too exhausted and you need to sleep.

Let your kids take 2 days on a math lesson if that’s what they need.

Let them speed ahead in curriculum until they feel challenged.

Let them explore, have time, get dirty, pursue interests, start a business at 13.

Let yourself rest.
Let yourself dream.

LET. It’s a powerful word.

The real MVP of our family homeschool journey? Trusting the call God placed on our hearts and stepping into it together.

Choosing to homeschool was not an easy decision for my husband and I. We worried about finances, questioned if we were qualified, and braced ourselves for the opinions of others. People thought we were crazy (and some said it too) for doing school differently. But deep down, we knew God was leading us. We knew it was right. Maybe not for forever, but for now.

This isn’t just about teaching at home—it’s about saying NO to the noise of the world as much as possible and YES to a life that reflects the values we hold most dear. It’s about raising children who know that following God’s calling can sometimes mean going against the grain.

The road less traveled isn’t always smooth, and there will be doubters along the way. But trust your heart, stay connected as a family, and enjoy the journey.

If homeschooling is on your heart, lean into it. It won’t look like anyone else’s journey—and that’s the beauty of it.
